Wheeling, WV â The Dayton Bombers suffered a 7-3 to the Wheeling nailers in front of 2,444 at WesBanco arena in Wheeling, West Virginia Wednesday night.
For the seventh time in fifteen games this season, Dayton scored first. JANNE JOKILA took a pass out of the corner from TYLER SLOAN and made it 1-0 with his fifth goal of the season. While BEN KNOPP was serving a four minute penalty, Kenny Corupe fired a wrist shot from the high slot past ANDREW PENNER to tie the game, 1-1.
In the second period, Corupe (3:14), T.J. Reynolds (8:39, PPG), and Chris MacKenzie scored for the Nailers, while TYLER KOLARIK (14:58) countered with his team-leading sixth goal of the season for Dayton. Wheeling led 4-2 after two, and started the third period on the powerplay after an elbowing penalty to JOKILA was called with :07 seconds left in period two.
Shortly after the penalty expired, James Laux made it 5-2. At 8:40 of the third period, Aaron Foster pulled Dayton within two, 5-3. But :37 seconds later, Mark Kosick beat MIKE AYERS, who replaced Penner in goal to start period three, to make it 6-3. And Brendan Hodge capped the scoring as Wheeling beat Dayton, 7-3.
