ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (9-9-0) suffered their second straight loss as the Trenton Devils (6-6-1) rode a three-goal second period to a 3-2 victory on Tuesday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 3,298.
The Everblades opened the game's scoring in the first period taking advantage of a 5-on-3 power play situation just over six minutes into the game. Mitch Fadden, who currently leads the ECHL in scoring, tallied his ninth goal of the season at 6:26 after firing a wrist shot from the high slot that sailed past Devils net-minder Jeff Lerg. Francis Lemieux and Elgin Reid tallied the assists on the goal.
Florida's lead held until the mid-point of the second period when Trenton began their three-goal barrage. The first of the trio of goals came short-handed at 9:12 when Devils defenseman Martin Nolet skated the puck up ice from his own end on a 2-on-1 rush before slipping a shot between the pads of Everblades goalie Jaroslav Janus. The goal was Trenton's fourth short-handed marker of the year and the eighth allowed by the Everblades.
Trenton took the lead for good at 14:41 when Ryan Ginand tallied the first of his two goals after a turnover behind the Everblades net allowed Jeff Prough to feed Ginand at the front of the wide open Everblades net. Ginand then gave the Devils a 3-1 lead at 16:28 with his fifth goal of the year after stuffing home a shot at the left post.
The Everblades came out strong in the third period and quickly cut the lead down to one when Alex Imbeault notched his league-leading 13th goal of the season 3:34 into the frame. After forcing a turnover in the neutral zone Drew Larman slid a pass ahead into the offensive zone to Ross Carlson who fired a quick pass in Imbeault in the slot.
However, over the remaining 16 and a half minutes the Devils choked off the Everblades and limited their opportunities, to hang onto the lead.
In goal Janus took the loss to see his record fall to 4-4-0 after allowing the three goals on 37 shots, while Lerg improved to 5-2-0 after stopping 22 of 24 shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-of-3, while Trenton closed out the game 0-of-3.
