Victoria's Shantz Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - David Shantz of the Victoria Salmon Kings is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 15-21.

Shantz was 2-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .970 in two appearances last week. He turned aside 34 shots in a 4-1 victory on Saturday against Bakersfield, and made 31 saves in a 4-1 victory on Sunday against Stockton.

The 24 year old is 5-5-0 in 10 games for the Salmon Kings this season posting a 2.61 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920.

The native of Burlington, Ontario who is under contract with the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League, was a second round selection of the Florida Panthers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Shantz has played in 115 ECHL games since 2006 with Florida, Dayton, Elmira and Victoria going 62-35-9 with a 2.87 goals-against average of and a save percentage of .907. He also appeared in 60 games with Rochester and Abbotsford of the American Hockey League going 20-27-7 with a 3.09 goals-against average and a save percentage of .900.

Shantz was named to the ECHL All-Star Game while with Florida in 2007 and with Victoria in 2010.

Runners Up: Gerald Coleman, Alaska (2-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .932 save pct.), Peter Hirsch, Bakersfield (2-1-0, 1.67 GAA, .941 save pct.) and Mike Zacharias, Idaho (1-0-1, 1.38 GAA, .944 save pct.).

Also Nominated: Marco Cousineau (Elmira), Jaroslav Janus (Florida), Chris Carrozzi (Gwinnett), Riley Gill (Kalamazoo), Matt Dalton (Reading), Joe Palmer (Toledo) and Andrew Engelage (Utah).
