Wes Goldie Named Sher-wood Hockey Echl Player Of The Week
November 23, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
Aces forward Wes Goldie has been named the Sherwood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 15th -21st, the ECHL announced on Tuesday morning. Goldie, who paces Alaska in goals and points this season, led the Aces to a two-game sweep in Utah with back-to-back, three-point nights on Friday and Saturday. Goldie and the Aces will continue their season-long road trip on Wednesday with their first ever meeting with the Elmira Jackals. The game will be broadcast in Anchorage on 590 AM and 96.7 FM, beginning at 2:50pm AKST. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
Goldie, 31, was the Aces leading scorer over the weekend combining for six points (2g, 4a) in a pair of victories. Goldie helped lead Alaska to a comeback win on Friday night with three assists in a 5-4 OT win. The following night Goldie had his second two-goal game of the season, and added an assist in a 5-0 blowout win over the Grizzlies. Goldie is currently on an Aces season-high, five-game point streak with 11 points (5g, 6a) over that stretch. He has notched three-points in three of his last four games, and leads Alaska with 8 goals and 17 points.
Goldie was named to the ECHL All-Decade team earlier this month, has 297 career ECHL goals, and currently ranks as the leading active goal scorer in the league. The London, Ontario native is three goals away from becoming the seventh player in league history to score 300 ECHL goals. Goldie currently is tied for 7th in the ECHL in goals, and 8th in points. This is the first Aces weekly award won this season, and Goldie's first Player of the Week award since March 17th-23rd 2008, as a member of the Victoria Salmon Kings.
The first place Aces are currently on a season-long, eight-game road trip, and improved to 6-1 on the road this season after sweeping the Utah Grizzlies on Friday and Saturday. On Wednesday and Friday, they will visit the ECHL's first-place team, the Elmira Jackals. They then will travel to Trenton, followed by Idaho for the remainder of the trip, before returning home on Dec. 8th and Dec. 9th to host Victoria.
