Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that goaltender David Shantz has been named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for November 15th - 21st.

The Burlington, ON native earns the award after posting a 2-0-0 record this past weekend, to go along with a 1.00 goals against average and 0.970 save percentage. Shantz posted a 34-save effort in a 4-1 victory in Bakersfield on Saturday, and followed up with a 31-save, 4-1 decision in Stockton on Sunday.

The 24-year-old goaltender has been named to the award for the third time in his ECHL career, following two honors last season while with the Salmon Kings (December 28th - January 3rd, December 14th - 20th). Shantz is one of six Victoria goaltenders (B.J. Boxma, Julien Ellis, Billy Thompson, Jonathan Boutin and Matt Keetley) to win the ECHL's weekly goaltending award, and is the only netminder to have won it twice in the same season.

Shantz, a second round draft pick (37th overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, has posted a 5-5-0 record in 10 starts this season to go along with a 0.920 save percentage and 2.61 goals against average. In 115 career ECHL starts between Victoria, Elmira, Dayton and Florida, the goaltender has registered a 62-35-9 mark to match a 2.87 goals against average, a 0.907 save percentage and four shutouts. Shantz is also a two-time ECHL All-Star, first as a member of the 2007 edition representing Florida, and as the starting netminder in last year's contest as a Salmon King.

The Salmon Kings return home this week to start a six-game home stand. They open with a three-game set versus the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday, November 24th, with contests to follow on Friday, November 26th and Saturday, November 27th. Puck drop for all three games is 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call 250-220-7777 or visit www.selectyourtickets.com
