Four home games highlight Thanksgiving week
November 23, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
The first-place Elmira Jackals will host four games at First Arena during Thanksgiving week, playing the Mountain Division-leading Alaska Aces for the first time ever in a pair of contests on Wednesday and Friday before welcoming the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday and then finishing out the week against the Florida Everblades on Sunday. The Jackals lead the Eastern Conference with 22 points after generating points in each of the last five games (3-0-2-0). Last weekend, the Jackals had a dominant 7-2 victory over the Trenton Devils on the road before succumbing in overtime to the Reading Royals on Sunday, 3-2.
Elmira is atop the Atlantic Division by four points over second-place Reading and 11 points over third-place Trenton.
HIGH-OCTANE OFFENSE VS. LOCKDOWN DEFENSE
Wednesday and Friday's games matching Elmira up with Alaska will see the league's most productive offense battle the league's stingiest defense. The Jackals are atop the ECHL in goals scored per game, averaging 4.27 per contest while Alaska comes in allowing the fewest goals per game at 2.21 and limiting opposing teams to just 25.14 shots each contest, also the best in the ECHL. Elmira has scored four goals or more in a game 10 times this season while Alaska has four shutouts through 14 games.
A SWEET PERFORMANCE
Andrew Sweetland recorded the first hat trick of his professional career in Saturday's win at Trenton and contributed two assists as well for an ECHL season-high five points. Sweetland was +4 in the win and has 11 points (7g-4a) in the month of November.
