Evansville Otters Win Seventh Straight Game with 17-0 Victory

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) The Evansville Otters offense exploded for a season-high in hits and runs in a 17-0 win over the Normal CornBelters on Saturday night.

Evansville would score six runs in the fourth inning, two more respectively in the fifth and sixth innings, while capping the night with a seven-run seventh inning.

Evansville has now won seven games in a row and will look for their eighth win on Sunday night in a possible sweep.

Evansville native Adam Champion and Normal right-hander Brendon Smith kept the teams scoreless over the first three and a half innings until the Otter offense erupted.

Outfielder DeAngelo Mack started the fourth inning scoring with an RBI double and designated hitter Dan Killian followed with a two-run double in the next at-bat. Killian would finish the night with three hits and four runs batted in.

Luis Uribe would added a two run home run in the sixth and Evansville batted around, for the second time, in the seventh inning. Outfielder Runey Davis drilled a two-run triple to the gap and infielder Steve Marino brought the last runs home with a two-run double.

Evansville is now 34-37 with the win as Normal stumbles to 23-48.

Eighth starters had a hit for the Evansville Otters and another seven had at least one run batted in.

Champion (5-4) earns the win, going 8.0 shutout innings in the victory. He tied a season-high with seven strikeouts. Smith (2-4) receives the loss after surrendering eight runs (seven earned) in 4.0 innings. Otters reliever Kevin Christy made his professional debut for Evansville, throwing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Otters will look for a sweep of Normal and an eight game winning streak on Sunday. It is Meet the Farmers night sponsored by Farm Bureau Inc. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. as right-hander Wynn Pelzer (0-2, 4.43 ERA) will start for Evansville and righty Drew Provence (3-1, 4.74) will be on the mound for Normal.
