August 4, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, Mo. - For the fifth time this season, and second straight night, the Rascals were shut out while posting just five hits in a 9-0 loss at Gateway.
The Grizzlies' Alex Guthrie launched a two-run homerun in the first after a leadoff walk started the inning to put the Rascals (34-37) in a 2-0 hole. River City stranded at least one runner on base the next five innings while starter Cory Caruso (0-1) and Doug Shields kept the score at 2-0 before a four-run sixth put the Rascals away.
A single and hit batter started the inning before an errant thrown from Charlie Lisk at third on a potential double play ball sailed into right field to score a run before Landon Hernandez lifted his third homerun of the series for a three-run shot to take a 6-0 lead.
The final nine hitters were retired in order as the Grizzlies (42-29) added two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth for the final score of 9-0 with Tim Brown winning his fourth game in his fourth start against the Rascals.
River City and Gateway conclude the season series tomorrow with first pitch set for 6:05 at GCS Ballpark. You can hear the action live at www.westplexnewstalk.com or locally on Westplex News-Talk 1280 AM.
