Espinosa's Big Night Spurs Sens
July 19, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Danny Espinosa collected five hits, including two home runs, and drove in three runs to lead the Harrisburg Senators to a 6-3 home victory over the New Britain Rock Cats at Metro Bank Park. Espinosa became the first Senator this season to record five hits in a ballgame.
The Sens (47-49) fell behind early in the game, and did not lead until the seventh inning. Trailing 3-1 heading into the inning, the Sens would bat around, sending all nine batters to the plate and scoring five runs. Espinosa hit his second home run of the ballgame, a two-run shot that scored Brad Coon, to start the scoring. Then, after Marvin Lowrance, Chris Marrero, and Tim Pahuta reached base on two walks and a single, Jhonatan Solano struck the biggest blow of the game, a bases-clearing double that put the Sens in front 6-3. Solano's double was hit to deep left centerfield, and came with two outs.
The Rock Cats (28-68) had taken the early lead by scoring two runs in the first, and a single run in the fourth, against Sens starter Tom Milone. The two runs in the first came very quickly, as Alexi Casillas and Ben Revere singled to lead off the ballgame, and Joe Benson doubled them home. In the fourth, a deep home run by Jair Fernandez put New Britain up 3-0. Espinosa's first home run of the game, a solo shot in the fifth, gave the Sens their first run of the game.
Reliever Chuck James (4-0) threw an inning and a third of perfect baseball to earn the win for the Senators, while 7'1'' reliever Loek Van Mil struggled mightily for the Rock Cats in the seventh, allowing the five runs in the seventh while retiring just two batters, and took the loss to drop to 1-2.
Game two of the three-game weekday series is scheduled for Tuesday evening at 7 PM, with LHP Aaron Thompson (4-10, 5.61) of the Senators set to take on LHP Tyler Robertson (2-9, 5.34) of New Britain. Fans can hear all the action by tuning in to 1460 AM The Ticket, or logging on towww.senatorsbaseball.com, beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 PM.
