July 19, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators are pleased to announce that outfielder Jesus Valdez has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending July 18th. Valdez joins Danny Espinosa as the second position player to win the weekly award for the Sens this year. LHP Chuck James won the pitcher award earlier this season.
Valdez had a great beginning to the week going 1 x 3 with 3 RBI's and finished the week with a great weekend series against Altoona. He went 8 x 19 against Altoona with 9 RBI's including a three-run game ending home run on Thursday night capping a Sens four-run rally.
Overall, for the week he batted .409 with 2 HR and 12 RBI's and scored 8 runs. For good measure, he chipped in with four doubles.
He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Chicago Cubs in 2002. The Nationals signed him as a minor league free agent on January 5, 2008. This is his first season with the Sens and overall this year he is batting .270 with 7 HR and 45 RBI's. He's hitting .333 with 4 HR and 18 RBI's in July, leading the Sens in both power categories.
The Sens are home this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and tickets to these games, as well as any remaining game this season, are available online through the Senators website 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Sens box office is open 9:00am to 5:00pm daily, Monday through Friday, and from 9:00am until the 5th inning of all Sens home games. To order tickets over the telephone please call 231-4444 option 2.
