OVERVIEW - The SeaWolves continue their six-game road trip Friday night in Portland, Maine against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox). This is the first of two trips the 'Wolves will make to New England. The second trip will come August 8-13 when Erie travels to New Britain and Connecticut.
The Sea Dogs are the defending Northern Division Champions and they currently sit atop the division by six games. Portland has the top pitching staff in the league with a team ERA of 3.06 and they are fifth in the league in hitting with a .250 team batting average. Portland is coming off of a 13-8 thumping of the Altoona Curve in game one of a three-game set. The final two games were postponed due to inclement weather. They are currently on a six-game winning streak and have won eight of their last 10.
The SeaWolves have dropped to three games under .500 after falling the final two games of the series in New Hampshire. The SeaWolves lost doubleheader games for the first time in 2006. Erie had been 4-0 in doubleheader action. The defeat also gave the 'Wolves their first losses of the season following an off day. Erie had been 8-0 following a day off.
These two squads split the 2005 season series 3-3.
