Chesapeake Baysox News Release

After a 51-minute rain delay before the game, the Baysox put up 7 runs on nine hits off Binghamton Mets pitching but wound up one run shy in an 8-7 loss Friday night in Bowie.

Starter Richard Stahl faced 12 batters but retired just three of them and gave up eight earned runs. After the Baysox bullpen took over for the southpaw, Binghamton failed to score a run. However, eight would be enough to stave off the Baysox notable comeback.

After the Mets batted around in the top of the 1st and collected two more off Stahl in the 2nd Bowie began their comeback.

Rayner Bautista led off the 3rd with a single up the middle, Pete Shier moved Bautista along with a single of his own to center field and Bautista moved to third when Jeff Fiorentino reached on a fielder's choice. With runners on the corners and one out Noah Hall roped a ground rule double scoring Bautista. Fiorentino scored on Cory Keylor's ground out for the second run of the inning.

With two on and one out Bautista lined out to the third baseman and both runners advanced on an error. Following Bautista, Shier picked up two RBI with a single into right field as the Baysox cut the deficit in half.

Mario Delgado, who led off the 4th with a single, led off the 6th with a double down the left field line and scored from third on Ryan Hubele's tapper back to the pitcher.

Fiorentino and Hall, who was celebrating his 29th birthday, both scored in a wild 7th inning. Fiorentino walked with one out and stole second with Hall at bat. A wild pitch allowed Fiorentino to move to third and then Hall drew a free pass to put runners on the corners. Fiorentino scored on a freebie as Mets rerliever Orlando Roman threw a wild pitch with Cory Keylor batting. After Keylor popped out, Leo Daigle singled home Hall from second. Suddenly what seemed like an huge deficit was cut down to one with an 8-7 score.

Unfortunately for Bowie, that would end up being the final score as Matt Lindstrom closed out the 9th throwing a wicked fastball that reached 101 mph on the radar.

With his seventh straight loss, Stahl falls to 1-8 on the season. Shier was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI on the night and had some spectacular pays at second base to keep Mets runners off the base paths.
