Harrisburg Senators News Release
Today's Game... The Senators enter play this evening having won their past two series. It's the first back-to-back series wins since three of four from Portland and then sweeping New Hampshire during their second homestand of the year in late April. The Sens have won four of six coming into tonight's game. Tonight on the mound for the Senators is LHP Oscar Alvarez and he's opposed by RHP Matt Garza for New Britain. Garza is the #7 prospect in the Twins organization according to Baseball America. He was the 2005 first round (25th overall) draft choice of the Minnesota Twins.
Last Time Out... The Senators and Connecticut Defenders played 11 innings on Thursday night before the Sens ended things scoring two runs in the bottom of the 11th for the 8-7 win. Connecticut had taken a lead in the top of the 11th 7-6 before the Sens rallied in the bottom of the inning for the win. In the 11th, Dan DeMent walked, Melvin Dorta and Tim Raines Jr. both reached base on bunt hits while trying to sacrifice; Kory Casto then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the tying run and Prentice Redman followed that up by driving a pitch to the fence in center for a long game winning single. Earlier, the Sens had taken a 4-1 lead only to have Connecticut tie the game in the fifth. Salomon Manriquez untied the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth but that was all the scoring the Senators would push across until the 11th inning.
New Britain... The Rock Cats enter play tonight having been swept in their past series at Akron. They are 11-15 away from New Britain stadium, but they've played well against Southern Division teams with a 10-6 record. The Rock Cats have several prospects among them Adam Harben, Errol Simonitsch, and Alex Romero are all on the Minnesota Twins 40-man roster. INF Matt Moses #3, LHP Glen Perkins #4, OF Denard Span #6, RHP Matt Garza #7, RHP Adam Harben #12, and OF Alex Romero #22 are Rock Cats that are listed among the top 30 prospects in the Twins organization according to Baseball America. They have taken five of the six games played between the two teams thus far this year. All of those games have been played in New Britain.
