Eric Thames goes 4-for-5 with 2 RBI as Fisher Cats move into first place tie with Trenton

Trenton, NJ- Eric Thames went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI and Zach Stewart improved to 5-2, pitching 6.1 solid innings as Fisher Cats moved into a tie for first place with Trenton, beating the Thunder 6-2 at Waterfront Park on Friday night.

Stewart allowed two earned runs, allowing six hits. He walked two and matched a career-high by striking out eight batters. Bubbie Buzachero worked 2.2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up his first save of the season for New Hampshire.

The Fisher Cats (45-29) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Darin Mastroianni singled to start the game, Manny Mayorson followed with a base hit and Shawn Bowman (2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI) knocked in Mastroianni with a single to make it 1-0.

In the top of the second inning, Danny Perales hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to right center to put the Fisher Cats up 2-0.

Trenton's Brandon Laird blasted his 19th homer of the season to lead off the bottom of the second inning to make it 2-1.

New Hampshire added a run in the top of the third inning. Thames (4-for-5, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) singled, moved to third on a fielder's choice error and scored on a wild pitch to give the Fisher Cats a 3-1 lead.

Trenton (44-28) loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning with one out against Zach Stewart. The Thunder scored a run when the Fisher Cats were unable to turn a double play with the bases loaded, allowing Brandon Laird, who had walked, to score on the Edwar Gonzalez grounder to make it 3-2.

Thunder starter Andrew Brackman (0-1), the Yankees first round draft pick in 2007 (North Carolina State), was making his Double-A debut. He worked five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits. He walked one and struck out five.

New Hampshire picked up an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Mayorson walked and scored on a double by Thames to make it 4-2.

The Fisher Cats plated the final two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Mastroianni was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a Thames single. Bowman doubled in Thames for a 6-2 lead.

Manny Mayorson went 2-for-4 for the Fisher Cats, giving him 325 career hits, which moved him past David Smith (324) as the new franchise leader.

New Hampshire continues the road trip on Saturday at 7:05pm in Trenton. Right-hander B.J.LaMura (1-1, 4.11) will get the start for the Fisher Cats against Thunder right-hander David Phelps (5-0, 2.19). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.

The Fisher Cats open a three-game series against the Reading Phillies at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Monday, June 28, with a 7:05pm game. Also on Monday, NBA star and Concord, NH, native Matt Bonner will be in attendance at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The San Antonio Spurs forward will sign autographs for fans in the Samuel Adams Bar & Grill from 5:15pm-6:00pm and will throw a ceremonial first pitch before the game. Bonner, 30, averaged 7.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game during the 2009-10 season.
