Sellout Crowd Sees Rock Cats Take Pitchers' Duel

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Kyle Gibson returned to form and Tony Davis fired two perfect innings out of the bullpen as the Rock Cats outlasted Portland, 2-1 in a pitcher's duel before a standing room only crowd of 7,491 on Friday night. It was the 12th sellout crowd of the 2010 season at New Britain Stadium.

Gibson (4-3) fired six shutout innings and held the Sea Dogs to four hits. He struck out five while walking one.

Portland's Kyle Weiland turned in an impressive six innings of his own, limiting the Rock Cats to four hits and no walks. He struck out six.

Weiland (3-5) retired the first seven Rock Cats he faced until Yancarlos Ortiz lined a base hit into right field. Ortiz moved to second on a groundout before coming around to score on Ben Revere's single to right that put the Rock Cats on top, 1-0. Revere was thrown out at second attempting to steal to end the inning.

Ortiz got the `Cats going again in the sixth when he led off the bottom of the inning with a single. He moved to second on Danny Lehmann's sacrifice bunt before Revere delivered a base hit to center to put runners on the corners. Chris Cates then laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Ortiz for the 2-0 advantage.

The Sea Dogs finally got on the board in the seventh inning, when Chih-Hsien Chiang greeted reliever Loek Van Mil with a double to left field. Van Mil rebounded to force the next two batters on groundouts before Che-Hsuan Lin delivered a double to left to knock in the Sea Dogs' lone run of the night.

Revere finished the night with a game-high three hits. Davis struck out three in two shutout innings to notch his first save of the season.
