'Wolves Fall to Flying Squirrels 6-5 on Friday

The SeaWolves mounted a late comeback on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park but fell short by a run to the Richmond Flying Squirrels by a score of 6-5.

Richmond struck first in the top of the third against Erie starter Duane Below. Jackson Williams led off with a double and with one out, Juan Ciriaco walked to put a pair on for the top of the lineup. Darren Ford singled home Williams for a 1-0 Richmond lead. Brandon Crawford then singled to load the bases for Thomas Neal. Neal singled home a pair to make it 3-0. Connor Gillaspie singled home Crawford with two outs for a 4-0 lead.

The Flying Squirrels added to their lead in the fourth when Ciriaco slammed a two-out solo home run for a 5-0 lead.

In the fifth, Crawford led off and doubled against reliever Jared Gayhart. With one out, Roger Kieschnick singled moving Crawford to third. Gillaspie followed and connected on a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Crawford to make it 6-0 Squirrels.

The ‘Wolves attempted a comeback in the seventh. Shawn Roof led off with a single and Alden Carrithers walked to put a pair on for Cale Iorg. Iorg doubled home Roof to make it 6-1. Andy Dirks walked to load the bases for Rawley Bishop. Bishop slammed a bases clearing double to the right field gap making it a 6-4 game. With one out, Kody Kaiser doubled home Bishop making it a one-run game at 6-5.

Erie would get no closer as they left the game tying and winning runs on base in the seventh and again in the ninth.

Erie went just 4-17 with runners in scoring position in the game.

Below (3-7) took the loss going four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

The SeaWolves have now dropped 10 consecutive home games.
