Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that INF Engelb Vielma has been placed on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to July 7th. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
Vielma goes on the DL with a concussion suffered in a collision with outfielder J.D. Williams during Sunday's 3-2 loss to Beloit. Vielma left the game after the collision, but Williams remained in the game. In 70 games for the Kernels, he is batting .253 with 11 doubles, three triples and 21 RBI. This is his second stint on the DL this season (May 14 - hamstring strain).
The Twins did not announce a corresponding move. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at 24 active players, one shy the Midwest League maximum of 25, with seven players currently on the DL.
The Kernels begin a three game home stand with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday, July 8th at 6:35 pm with the gates opening at 5:30 pm. The current home stand continues through Thursday, July 10th.
