
Dean's Grand Slam Dooms Captains

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)- Matt Dean blasted a Grand Slam homerun over the right field wall and the Lugnuts went on to beat the Captains 12-4. Dean's homer occurred in the top of the seventh inning and was a part of a six run inning. Two batters after Dean, Derrick Loveless blasted a two-run homer and the score was 10-1. The Captains have dropped five straight games.
Lake County got the early lead with a solo homerun from Torsten Boss. The homer for Boss was his third of the season as a member of the Captains. After two innings, the score was 1-0 Lake County.
Lansing scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Derrick Loveless began the inning with an opposite field double and was quickly singled home, by Dawel Lugo, to tie the game at 1-1. Lugo eventually scored later in the inning on a base hit from David Harris. The Lugnuts had the lead 2-1 after five innings.
The Lugnuts added two runs in the sixth inning. The Captains committed two errors, which helped the pair of runners cross home plate. Dawel Lugo had a sacrifice fly in the inning and the score after six innings was 4-1 Lugnuts.
The Captains scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Clint Frazier singled to lead off the frame, and then Eric Haase smacked his 14th homerun of the season and the score was 10-3. Haase hit 14 homeruns all of last season. Later in the inning, Dorssys Paulino singled home a run and the score was 10-4. Lansing added two in the top of the ninth inning to increase their lead. With two runners on base, Dawel Lugo doubled to the gap in right center field and the score was 12-4. That was the final.
RHP Mitch Brown (2-7) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Brown pitched six and one third innings and allowed 10 hits, nine runs, eight earned runs, two walks and tossed two wild pitches. Brown struck out four and allowed the grand slam to Matt Dean. Wander Beras pitched one and two thirds of relief and allowed one earned runs on two hits, he walked one and allowed the homer to Derrick Loveless. Jimmy Stokes pitched one inning and allowed two runs on one hit and one walk.
RHP Brad Allen (4-1) started for Lansing and did not get the decision. Allen allowed just two hits and one earned run on the homer to Boss. The Lansing Lugnuts used four pitchers out of the bullpen on Tuesday night. The win went to Jimmy Cordero (2-1). Cordero pitched a scoreless inning of relief and did not allow a hit.
The Captains will continue a seven game home stand on Tuesday Morning. The Captains will send RHP Jordan Milbrath (2-9, 3.79) to the mound for the start. The Lugnuts will counter with RHP Jeremy Gabryszwski (6-2, 3.82). First pitch is at 11:00 AM from Classic Park in Eastlake.
Wednesday is a special 11 AM start and many local day camps will be in attendance. Professional Football player Joe Haden will be participating in an on-field ceremonial first pitch before the game.
