December 30, 2011 - NBA G League (G League)
Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy got 20 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists from point guard Nick Covington as they defeated the Idaho Stampede 108-86 Friday night.
Covington, making his second start of the season since being signed on December 17th, was 8 of 9 from the field, including 4 of 4 from 3-point land on his way to his career night.
Despite the final score, the night didn't start well for Iowa as Idaho used tough defense around the rim to open up a 27-18 lead after the 1st quarter. Idaho blocked six Energy shots in the opening stanza including four by 7'5" center Will Foster.
After Idaho extended the lead to 35-24 with 8:56 left in the 2nd quarter, Covington and forward Marqus Blakely combined to go on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to two at 35-33. Minutes later, with the game tied at 39-39, Energy wing Moses Ehambe drilled a 3-pointer to give Iowa a lead that it didn't give up the rest of the night.
After heading into the halftime break up 48-47, Iowa stormed out of the gate in the 3rd quarter, opening up a 16 point lead on a Covington jump shot with 4.2 seconds left in the quarter.
The game was never in doubt in the 4th quarter, as Idaho got no closer than 14 points the rest of the game.
Ehambe (19 points), Blakely (15), Michael Tveidt (11) and Andrew Drevo (10) joined Covington in double-figures for the Energy. Jarrid Famous pulled down 11 rebounds on the night. The win moves Iowa to 10-4 on the season.
Eric Devendorf led Idaho with 18 points, while Paul Carter added 16 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Idaho falls to 6-8 on the year with the loss.
For the game, Iowa shot 10 of 16 from 3-point land, but managed to only make 18 of 25 free throw attempts. The Energy outrebounded Idaho 63-44.
The Energy play their next four games at home before returning to Des Moines for a game on Sunday, January 15th vs Tulsa. Game time is 4pm. For tickets, visit www.IowaNBA.com.
