
Energy Hold off BayHawks 104-103 in Thriller

DES MOINES, IA, December 17, 2010- Forward Othyus Jeffers scored with seven seconds remaining in the game to give the Iowa Energy a thrilling 104-103 victory over the Erie BayHawks Friday night in Des Moines.
Erie jumped out to a 53-48 halftime lead behind a strong start from Cleveland Cavalier assignee Christian Eyenga who had 11 points before the break.
Iowa rallied in the 3rd quarter as the Energy outscored Erie 33-19 in the quarter, including 13 points from guard Curtis Stinson. A Courtney Sims free throw gave the Energy a commanding 81-72 lead heading into the final stanza.
Erie opened the 4th quarter with a 10-3 run, capped by a Nate Linhart 3-pointer to cut the Energy lead to two points. The two teams traded baskets before a quick Energy spurt gave the home team a 100-93 lead with only 2:54 remaining in the game. Erie's responded with a Kyle Goldcamp bucket and a 3-pointer by Eyenga to narrow the lead to two once again.
A pair of free throw by Jeffers gave Iowa a 102-98 lead with 1:13 remaining in the game. Erie's Cedric Jackson drew a foul on Jeffers, and made the first free throw, but missed the second. BayHawks forward Tasmin Mitchell grabbed the rebound and found Linhart open under the hoop for a layup to cut the lead to 102-101 with under a minute left.
Iowa Jeffers' then lost the ball to Mitchell, who fed Cedric Jackson for a break-away layup to give visitors a 103-102 lead. After a Jeffers miss, Sims fouled Erie big man Jeff Adrien with 35.9 seconds remaining. Adrien missed both free throws giving Iowa the ball down by one point. With just 24.2 seconds remaining, Stinson missed a leaning jump shot that was rebounded by Eyenga, who was called for traveling, giving the Energy possession of the ball.
After an Energy timeout, Stinson missed again, but corralled his own rebound. The Energy point guard then found Chris Lofton open for a 3-pointer, but his shot missed short with 8.9 seconds remaining. With the ball being fought for, Jeffers emerged from the pack and made an easy layup to give the Energy a 104-103 lead with 7.0 seconds on the clock.
After an Erie timeout, Cedric Jackson found an open Eyenga on the left wing. Eyenga's 3-pointer bounced off the front of the rim as the horn sounded, giving Iowa the victory.
Stinson finished with 22 points and 12 assists while Jeffers finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Erie was led by Jackson's 15 point, 14 assist night while Linhart added 20 points and 12 rebounds.
