Wizards Get First Win at Home

Bismarck, N.D. (Dec. 3, 2010) - The Dakota Wizards (2-9) defeated the Texas Legends (9-4) 115-102 Friday night in the first of a two game series at the Bismarck Civic Center. The victory is Dakota's first win of the season at home. All five Wizard starters reached double figures in scoring led by DeMarre Carroll with 22 points.
The Wizards led 26-24 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead early in the second on seven straight points by Vernon Hamilton who came off the bench to score 13 points. The Legends cut the lead to three late in the second on two free throws by Sean Williams but that would be as close as the Legends would get as the Wizards would lead 57-48 at the break. Chris Johnson scored 14 of his 21 points in the first half.
Dakota led by as many as 15 in the third quarter until a late 13-6 run by the Legends would cut the deficit to just three. Justin Dentmon would keep the Legends in the game as he scored his game high 24 points in the first three quarters and Texas would trail 85-82 at the end of three. The teams would battle back and forth in the final quarter and Texas would cut the lead to three with five minutes left. Renaldo Major and Memphis Grizzlies assignee DeMarree Carroll took over late in the quarter to lead the Wizards to their first victory at home.
Major, Carroll, Darren Cooper and Chris Johnson all scored 20 points or more and the Wizards would have their highest offensive output of the season scoring 115 points.
The Wizards will look to extend their winning streak tomorrow night as they host the Legends in their final meeting of the regular season at the Bismarck Civic Center.
