Ubiles Named 2102 NBA Development League Rookie of the Year

BISMARCK, ND (April. 20, 2012) - The Dakota Wizards announced today that Edwin Ubiles has been named the NBA Development League's Rookie of the Year for the 2011-12 season as voted on by the league's 16 head coaches

Ubiles, a 6-6, 204-pound forward out of Sienna, was acquired by Dakota in a draft day trade with the Bakersfiled Jam. In his first season as a professional, he was fourth in the league in scoring averaging 19.9 points on .503 shooting to go along with 5.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.0 steal in 41 games (41 starts) and scored a season and career high 41 points against the Iowa Energy.

A 2012 NBA Development League All-Star, Ubiles earned an invite to the Golden State Warriors training camp and earned his first career GATORADE Call-Up to the Washington Wizards on March 18th becoming the first player from Sienna to appear in an NBA regular season game. He appeared in four games with Washington averaging 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 13.0 minutes.

Ubiles is the third player in Dakota Wizards history to be named Rookie of the Year and second Wizard to garner the NBA Development League's Rookie of The Year, as Blake Ahearn received the honor for the 2007-08 season.
