Armor Drop Another Close Game to Maine

SPRINGFIELD, MA Dec. 17, 2010- The Maine Red Claws escaped with a 117-112 victory Friday night against the Springfield Armor at the MassMutual Center in Springfield. The Red Claws managed to pull out their second win in two days after surrendering a 16-point halftime lead.

Springfield trailed by double digits in the fourth quarter, but a 12-0 run which was capped off by a

JamesOn Curry three gave the Armor a 99-97 lead. The Armor and Red Claws traded baskets until Maine pulled away in the end.

"When you rely on players to miss shots, which they didn't," Armor head coach Dee Brown said. "That's when you come up short."

The Armor made a run in the third quarter as well. After the Red Claws expanded their lead to the largest of the game at 18, the Armor went on a 20-5 run over a 7-minute span. "We just go through too long of stretches where we're not there mentally," Red Claws head coach Austin Ainge said.

The Armor run was led by Curry and Brian Leggett. Curry and Leggett both dropped 10 in the quarter, while Leggett grabbed 4 boards (2 on the offensive end).

The Red Claws controlled the majority of the first half as they went into halftime with a 64-48 lead.

Maine was led by DeShawn Sims with 25 points and 8 rebounds and Keith ‚¬ËœTiny' Gallon with 19 points and 7 boards. Springfield was led by Curry with a game-high 38 points and Chas McFarland with 25 points. McFarland also grabbed 8 rebounds and shot 11-15 from the field in his best game as a member of the Armor.

Maine plays the Idaho Stampede Sunday at home. The Armor welcome Antoine Walker and the Stampede Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center.
