Energy FC and Tulsa Roughnecks Battle for the Wrench in the Black Gold Derby Tomorrow
August 2, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
OKC Energy FC News Release
Energy FC (7th, 7-7-8, 29 points) return home after taking care of business in Tacoma with a 2-0 win over the Defiance. Kyle Hyland earned a spot on the USL Championship Team of the Week after scoring the match-winning goal, his first of the season. Atiba Harris added a second goal just before second-half stoppage time to seal the points.
Next up is one of the most anticipated matches of the year, the Black Gold Derby. Tulsa Roughnecks FC (17th, 4-11-6, 18 points) come to Taft Stadium having failed to win in their 13 matches, most recently losing 1-0 to Phoenix Rising FC.
OKC and Tulsa have met once already this season with the sides drawing 1-1 at ONEOK Field on April 27. Omar Gordon was the scorer for OKC that night. Energy FC has a significant head-to-head advantage all time with nine wins, three losses and three draws. A win will see Energy FC lift the Wrench for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
Brown leads the way with nine goals for Energy FC, while Omar Gordon has the most assists with six. Cody Laurendi leads the league with 72 saves.
