Toronto Argonauts News Release

Toronto – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced at a media conference today that linebacker Kevin Eiben has signed a long-term deal with the team. The B.C. native, named a 2004 CFL All-Star, will remain an Argo for four years and will even work with the club in the off season.

The East Division Outstanding Canadian for 2004 was the CFL's leader in defensive tackles with 110 for the regular season, the first non-import Argo to break the 100 DT mark in a single season and the third Argonaut ever. Known for his ability to run across the field in a heartbeat to knock down a pass, Eiben became a starter in 2004 and impressed the Argo coaching staff tremendously. #35 was voted the Argonauts Outstanding Player, Outstanding Canadian and Outstanding Defensive Player by the Toronto chapter of the Football Reporters of Canada. Eiben was also named the CFL's Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2004, once in Week 1 and once in the East Semi-Final.

On his signing, Kevin Eiben commented, "I am extremely excited to be back with the Toronto Argonauts. I can't think of a better coaching staff, better teammates and better fan support than Toronto. The owners have been very supportive and this deal gives me the opportunity to gain experience in the sports industry and grow in the area I studied in both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. I am looking forward to repeating a Grey Cup victory in 2005."

Vice President of Football Operations Adam Rita remarked, "Kevin is a dynamic, young player that we hope will be an Argonaut for his entire career. We've grown to expect great things from this young man and anticipate great things from him in the years to come."

Head Coach Michael "Pinball" Clemons stated, "Today's signing brings me significant satisfaction as we announce our most outstanding player from a year ago will be with us for years to come. I use the word satisfaction because I've had the distinct pleasure of seeing Kevin progress as a pro, starting on the practice roster and maturing into one of the best players in our league. As a coach today, I feel more like a parent and am consumed with pride in all that Kevin has accomplished. But my sneaking suspicion is the best is yet to come."
