Luke Fritz will be back

February 17, 2005 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal, February 17, 2005 - The Montreal Alouettes' offensive line, considered one of the best in the Canadian Football League will remain intact as offensive tackle Luke Fritz has accepted the terms of a two-year deal plus an option today.

"Luke is one of the best and most promising young players in this league," said General Manager Jim Popp. "Not only does he assure us of keeping our offensive line intact, Luke also allows us to count on a Canadian player at the tackle position, which gives us an important advantage."

Fritz will begin his fourth season with the Alouettes. He won the starting offensive tackle position at the start of the 2004 season. Born in Osoyoos, B.C., Fritz was drafted in the first round of the 2001 draft by the Alouettes, the seventh pick overall. He attended the Carolina Panthers' training camp that year, and, after a stint in the NFL Europe with the Scottish Claymores, he played six games with the Alouettes.

Once again this season, Fritz had three tryouts in the NFL - with the San Diego Chargers, the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins. He is 26 and lives in Montreal year-round with his wife Erin. He also participates actively in the Alouettes' community hockey and basketball programs.

Luke will be available for interviews today at 1 p.m. at the Alouettes' downtown office located at 1260 University, first floor.
