ECHL Releases 2012-13 Schedule; Gladiators Open 10th Season on the Road

May 30, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The ECHL released the 2012-13 playing schedule as the Gwinnett Gladiators will celebrate their 10th Anniversary season as a member of the nation's premier Double-A professional hockey league. As in past seasons, ECHL teams will play a total of 72 regular season games from October 2012 to March 2013, with the Gladiators hosting 36 home matchups at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in addition to 36 road games.

The Gladiators will host a pair of home games on Friday, October 19th against the Ontario Reign and on Saturday, October 20th against the Greenville Road Warriors to begin the home schedule for the 2012-13 season. The Gladiators will play their first regular season games of the 2012-13 season on the road against the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday, October 13th. It is the third consecutive year that the Gladiators have opened the season on the road.

Many Gladiators games have become annual holiday traditions, and several of those events will continue during the 2012-2013 season. For the 10th consecutive season, the Gladiators will play on Thanksgiving Night. As the team did last season, the Gladiators will play on Black Friday, November 23, 2012; and Gwinnett will again host the traditional "Kids Day Out" matinee matchup for the MLK Jr. Holiday on Monday, January 21st, 2013.

Of the Gladiators 36 home games during the 2012-13 season, 30 games are designated to weekends on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Start times for all home games remain unchanged from last season with all games starting at 7:05 p.m. except Friday games, which will begin at 7:35 p.m., and Sunday games, which will again start at 4:05 p.m. In addition, the Gladiators annual MLK Kids Day Game will start at 12:30 p.m. while the Black Friday Game will again start at 6:05 p.m. Two other scheduled start time exceptions include a 7:05 p.m. start on Friday, December 28th and a 2:05 p.m. start on Sunday, February 17th.

The Gladiators '12-'13 schedule is highlighted by action against several Western Conference opponents. The Ontario Reign make their only trip of the season to Gwinnett on October 19th, while the Idaho Steelheads will travel to Gwinnett for a pair of games on January 26th and January 27th. Late in the season, the Gladiators travel to Salt Lake City to visit the Utah Grizzlies on March 6th, followed by a pair of matchups in Boise against the Idaho Steelheads on March 8th and 9th. Gwinnett will also battle the defending Kelly Cup Champion Florida Everblades four times at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. In addition, the Gladiators will host three ECHL newcomers at the Arena at Gwinnett Center with games against the Orlando Solar Bears (8 games), Evansville Icemen (1 game) and Fort Wayne Komets (2 games).

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
