IceMen Announce 2012-13 ECHL Schedule
May 30, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Proclaiming it as the best schedule ever in the franchise history, the Evansville IceMen will make their debut as new members of the ECHL in the 2012-13 season with a most attractive and appealing home schedule, certain to be a major smash hit for the club's ever-growing fan base in the Evansville Tri-State region.
In formally unveiling their inaugural ECHL game schedule for the upcoming campaign, the IceMen have announced their regular season schedule will consist of 72-games spread over a period of 27-weeks, spanning from Friday, October 12, 2012 to the regular season finale on Saturday, March 30, 2013.
As a member club of the ECHL's Eastern Conference North Division, the IceMen will have a schedule which will accentuate and otherwise develop and emphasize rivalries within their own conference as all 72-games will be played within their own 14-teams' conference confines.
However, perhaps, the best aspect of the IceMen new ECHL schedule is the major increase in attractive weekend and holiday season home dates which are always so popular for family fun entertainment in Evansville and the Tri-State. For the upcom-ing campaign, 29 of the IceMen 36-home dates will be on weekends or during the holidays at their home of the Ford Center.
Included in this season's IceMen schedule of home appearances, specifically are 12-FRIDAY NIGHTS; 11-SATURDAY NIGHTS; 5-SUNDAYS and the annual NEW YEAR'S EVE game event, Monday, December 31st. It is on Saturday night where the IceMen number of home dates has grown significantly, more than doubling last season's number of 5-Saturday home games.
The IceMen home game times for the 2012-13 season will remain as they were last season with Monday through Saturday games, again, set for 7:15 PM CST while all Sunday games will continue at 5:00 PM CST with the lone exception being March 3rd which will have an opening face-off at 6:00 pm.
Another special feature of the IceMen '12-13 schedule will be the Second Annual Education Day game with this game set for TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH at 9:45 AM CST.
The home opening night for the IceMen will be SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13TH at 7:15 PM CST against their principal archrivals and in-state foes, the Fort Wayne Komets, who also joined the ECHL after capturing the CHL crown in 2011-12.
The 2012-13 ECHL will be comprised of 23-teams consisting of two conferences and five total divisions. The Eastern Conference/North Division will be composed of the IceMen, Fort Wayne, the Cincinnati Cyclones, Kalamazoo Wings and Toledo Walleye. The Atlantic Division will consist of the Elmira Jackals, Reading Royals, Trenton Titans and Wheeling Nailers. In the South Division, the recently-coronated league kingpins, the Florida Everblades, Greenville Road Warriors, Gwinnett Gladiators, Orlando Solar Bears and South Carolina Stingrays. The Western Conference/Mountain Division membership consists of the Alaska Aces, Colorado Eagles, Idaho Steelheads and Utah Grizzlies; Pacific Division; Bakersfield Condors, Las Vegas Wranglers, Ontario Reign, San Francisco Bulls and Stockton Thunder.
The overall schedule will be of an unbalanced nature expressly to accent the intra-division and intra-conference rivalries. The IceMen will tangle with their fellow fractious foes from the North Division in 46 of their 72-games. Evansville will see Kalamazoo the most frequently with 13-clashes slated between the two teams; 7 of those bouts will be staged in the West Michigan hamlet while 6-more will have the Ford Center as the backdrop for game proceedings. The IceMen will engage in combat with Cincinnati 12-times; 5-at home and 7-more abroad. Fort Wayne is on the docket 11-times; 5-at home and 6-away; Toledo and the IceMen will collide 10-times; 5-home, 5-away.
Completing the team-by-team breakdown, the IceMen will tangle with Gwinnett 4-times (3-home. 1-road); Elmira 4-times (2-home, 2-road); Trenton ( 1-home, 2-away); Wheeling ( 1-home, 2-away); Greenville (3-home); Reading (2-home, 1-away); South Carolina (1-home, 1-away); Orlando (1-home, 1-away); Florida (2-away). The IceMen have no games scheduled against the 9-teams comprising the Western Conference.
The most active months for the IceMen will be November and March, each with 14-games. They also have 13-games listed for December and 12-games each for both January and February. For the second consecutive year, the IceMen will make their most home appearances in December when they take the ice for 9-games at the Ford Center. That will be followed by 7-home outings for the month of January. Once again, this season, the IceMen will be home for the holidays with their longest homestand of the year, consisting of 6-games from December 21st to January 4th. Their longest stretch of consecutive road games will be 5-consecutively from November 21st to November 30th and 4-games away in a row from February 16th to February 24th.
Home games will be prevalent at season's inception as the Evansville squad will play 4 of its first 5, 8 of the first 11 and 9 of the team's first 13-games will be on home ice at the Ford Center. Meanwhile, the foreign ice warfare really emerges in the latter stages of the season as the IceMen will see action abroad in 5 of their last 7-games; 13 of their last 18 and 16 of their last 23-games.
Eight times this season the IceMen will confront the daunting assignment of 3-games in 3-days/nights with 4 of those times the schedule actually listing 4-games in 5-days/nights.
The IceMen will be announcing their pre-season game schedule in the near future with a two or three games' slate expected.
