Colorado Eagles Announce 10th Anniversary, 2012-13 Regular Season Schedule
May 30, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, along with the rest of the ECHL's clubs, announced today the 2012-13 regular season schedule, which will be the Eagles' 10th anniversary season and the league's 25th. A highlight for both will be the 2013 ECHL All-Star festivities, hosted at the Budweiser Events Center, in mid-January.
The ECHL features a 72-game regular season, with each team playing 36 games at home and on the road. The schedule is unbalanced between the league's 23 teams, with most contests featuring teams from within the same conference, however, this season's schedule will feature some inter-conference games, which, for the Eagles, will be championship-caliber match-ups. Colorado will play three games against the CHL champion Fort Wayne Komets (who left the former league after claiming the title) and three games against the ECHL champion Florida Everblades. The rest of the Eagles' 66 games will be played within the Western Conference.
For the second season in a row, the Eagles will play the Utah Grizzlies -- their closest opponent -- the most: a total of 13 times. Following the Grizzlies, Colorado will face-off with ECHL power Alaska 11 times, with the rest of their opponent breakdown as follows: Western Conference champion Las Vegas (9), Idaho (8), newcomer San Francisco (7), Bakersfield (7), Stockton (6) & Ontario (5). Other than six meetings with Utah in March, the Eagles will not face any opponent more than four times in any month. March also features the team's longest home stand (6 games) and road trip (7 games) of the season.
As usual, the majority of Colorado's home games -- 34 of 36 -- will be played on Fridays (12), Saturdays (12) or Wednesdays (10). Eagles fans can also take solace in the fact that the team took to heart their feedback in last season's survey and will hold their lone Sunday game at a matinee time of 2:05 p.m. All other home games will feature the usual 7:05 p.m. start time.
Breaking up the season will be the league's All-Star festivities during the third full week of January. The break will be highlighted by the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game (presented by Medical Center of the Rockies, Poudre Valley Hospital & Poudre Valley Medical Group) on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The All-Star Game will feature the host Eagles taking on a team made up of ECHL All-Stars comprised of players from the rest of the league's clubs. Details about the rest of the showcase events will be announced later this summer.
Details about a preseason game at the Budweiser Events Center scheduled for Friday, October 5 will also be announced when the season gets closer.
Individual tickets for all Eagles home games will go on sale in September.
