Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Drew Vettleson hit a two-run home run as a part of a five-run first inning, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (27-16, 65-48) hung on to beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps (25-18, 57-56) 7-4 on Monday night at Parkview Field. Cameron Seitzer and Alejandro Segovia both recorded three-hit nights as the TinCaps committed six errors.
The Hot Rods committed five errors of their own, but Andrew Bellatti recorded the final eight outs for the save in the win. The victory in the third game of the four-game set is the Hot Rods twentieth in their last 29 contests.
Vettleson's long ball, his second of the series, started the scoring barrage for the Hot Rods in the first inning against TinCap starter Erik Cabrera, who was making his stateside debut. Jeff Malm, Josh Sale, and Kes Carter each drove in a run to cap the early offensive outburst.
After the TinCaps scored a run against Hot Rods starter Jake Floethe in the bottom of the first, Bowling Green grabbed it right back when Seitzer doubled home Segovia with two outs in the top of the second. Fort Wayne added an unearned tally in their half, though, to make it 6-2 Hot Rods.
Bowling Green scored in the top of the fourth, an inning where the TinCaps committed three of their six errors. The two teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when the TinCaps scored two runs off Hot Rods reliever Jake Partridge thanks to a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and walk.
Bellatti entered and inherited the bases loaded with one out in a 7-4 contest. With the tying run on first base, Bellatti forced Travis Jankowski to strike out and Jace Peterson to fly out in centerfield. The Peterson flyout was made on a diving grab by Hot Rods centerfield Kes Carter. Including those two outs, Bellatti went on to record the final eight outs to put away the win for Bowling Green and record his fifth save.
Floethe earned his tenth win, tying him for the team lead with Ryan Carpetner. The outing was his third straight quality start and his fourth in his last five starts. The Hot Rods, who have committed nine errors behind Floethe in his last three starts, are now 15-6 with the righty on the bump.
The fourth and final game of the four-game series takes place at Parkview Field on Tuesday night at 6:05 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Roberto Gomez (9-2, 2.57), while the TinCaps will counter with LHP Frank Garces (8-4, 2.41). Tune in to the game on the flagship station for the Hot Rods Radio Network, WBGN-AM 1340 "The Ticket," and online at 1340wbgn.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 5:45 PM CDT.
The Hot Rods return home on Wednesday to begin a three-game series and homestand with the South Bend Silver Hawks (Future D-Backs). The upcoming homestand features another Thrifty Thursday and the final Christian Family Radio Faith and Family Night.
