Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Kevin St. Jacques recorded a goal and two assists as the Bakersfield Condors shut down the Fresno Falcons 4-2 in front of 4,761 fans at Centennial Garden on Friday.
With a game time of 10:30 a.m., Brett Lutes scored what is the earliest goal in team history, just :52 after the drop of the puck for the 1-0 lead. Fresno equaled it later in the frame with Jason Weaver converting a turnover deep in the Condors zone for an unassisted tally. In the second period, Brad Mehalko notched his seventh goal of the season at 6:44 on the power play, and the teams were locked up in a one-goal game.
In the third stanza St. Jacques and Connor James provided a boost while the Condors were shorthanded. James found the veteran center alone in the slot for the team's third shorthanded goal of the season to lift the Condors to a 3-1 lead. Just over a minute and a half later St. Jacques fed Todd Alexander between the circles, and the second year winger buried it for his fourth of the year. Alexander had missed the last three games with a concussion and today marked his return to the lineup.
The Condors improved to 11-1-2 on the season, and 9-0-1 at the Garden. They extended their lead in the National Conference North Division to three points over idle Idaho and Alaska with 24 points - second highest in the ECHL.
The next five games for Bakersfield will be on the road, starting tomorrow night against Long Beach at 7:30 p.m. They return home on Saturday, December 11th against the Greenville Grrrowl. The first 2,000 kids 12 and under will receive a Condors backpack, courtesy of KGET-TV 17 and Subway.
