Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles begin their 5th anniversary season tonight in Prescott Valley, AZ with their first of two weekend games against the Arizona Sundogs; puck-drop is scheduled for 8:05 tonight and tomorrow. The Eagles are not only celebrating their 5th anniversary, but they will also be looking to get off to a fast start in defending their league championship.
Last season, Colorado and Arizona split their head-to-head games with each team going 4-4-0. Neither team was able to win on the other's home rink, so the Eagles will need to break that trend if they want to begin the season on the right foot.
The Eagles feature a roster almost identical to their seasoned championship lineup, with many returning players and a few promising new faces. Added to their core vets (Greg Pankewicz, Riley Nelson, Ryan Tobler and Brad Williamson) are goalies Clayton Pool and Ian Keserich (Marco Emond did not make the trip after being injured in camp), defensemen Paul Esdale (2004-05 CHL Most Outstanding Defenseman) and Jason Beatty and playmaking-forward Dave Iannazzo.
The Sundogs feature a young, but very talented roster -- only three players are older than 25 -- with a handful of returning players that helped lead the team to a successful inaugural season a year ago. Arizona finished at 34-28-2, earning a playoff berth and lasting into the second round before being eliminated in Game 7 by the New Mexico Scorpions.
Both games this weekend can be heard on 107.9 The Bear (or streaming on www.1079thebear.com). Also this year, the CHL has introduced the CHL Network, which allows fans to watch every CHL game over the internet -- with the option of listening to either the home or away team's radio broadcast.
The Eagles' home opener is on Wednesday, Oct. 24 against the Tulsa Oilers. Puck-drop will be at 7:31 p.m. with special championship ceremonies beginning at 7:05.
