Dynamic Duo to Perform at Grrrowl Home Opener
October 6, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL have announced that two of the worlds' greatest musical talents will be on hand during pre-game activities for the home opener on Friday, October 24, 2003 against the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05pm. Both entertainers are upstate residents and will perform the National Anthem and America the Beautiful prior to the start of the game.
LORETTA HOLLOWAY, a world-class and highly acclaimed jazz performer will start the evening with a very powerful rendition of "America the Beautiful". Ms. Holloway performed the same emotional selection for the Grrrowl home opener in 2001, just after the September 11th tragedy. Ms. Holloway has made unforgettable impressions all around the world, including many roles on Broadway, and sharing the stage with Bill Cosby, Whoopi Goldberg, Garry Shandling, Don Rickles and many others. Most recently, Ms. Holloway has been very active with her support of Las Vegas' two major AIDS fund-raising groups, AFAN and Golden Rainbow. Loretta's debut CD, aptly named, "Loretta Holloway...Quietly", was released in April of 1996 to rave reviews. To review the entire Loretta Holloway story, log onto www.lorettaholloway.com. Ms. Holloway [a graduate of Claflin (SC) College] was born, raised, and now resides in Belton, SC.
SARAH REESE will cap the pre-game ceremonies with her special version of the "Star Spangled Banner". Ms. Reese has traveled the world to share her very powerful operatic performances. Ms. Reese has performed with Symphony and Opera companies in Switzerland, England, France, Monte Carlo, Italy and Russia. In the United States, Sarah has graced the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House, and New York's famed Carnegie Music Hall. In Boston, she participated in a history-making cultural exchange when she sang in the American premiere of Rodion Schedrin's opera, "The Dead Souls", in joint performances with the Bolshoi and Kirov opera companies. Ms. Reese, who still calls Greenville home, is a Furman University graduate with a degree in education.
"To say that we are thrilled to be joined by such musical greatness, is a tremendous under-statement'", commented Byron K. Rucker, Grrrowl Exec. VP and General Manager. "Special opportunities like this do not come around very often, and we are excited to be able to provide this caliber of entertainment to our fans and the entire Upstate. The extraordinary talents of these great ladies will make our home opener a truly memorable event in the history of this organization."
The Greenville Grrrowl currently have 33 players in training camp at the BI-LO Center. Practices are scheduled for 9:30am each morning, with the first home pre-season game slated for 7:05pm on Friday, October 10, 2003 against the South Carolina Stingrays.
