Express Ink Returning Players to Contracts

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Express signed four players from last season to contracts for the 2003-2004 season, it was announced today by Express Head Coach Tony MacAulay. Forwards Dan Carlson and Rick Kowalsky, along with defensemen Duncan Dalmao and Tim O'Connell, all officially joined the Express by signing contracts for the upcoming season.

With the return of Carlson and Kowalsky, the Express see two of its top scorers return to Roanoke from last season. Kowalsky, the team captain last year, notched 27 goals and 55 assists for 82 points in 68 games for Roanoke last year. Overall, the Simcoe, Ontario native enters his 10th professional season, and his third with the Express. Kowalsky has played in 525 career games, scoring 514 points. In his two seasons with Roanoke, the 31-year-old has collected 165 points in 138 games.

Carlson made a strong impression his his first season with Roanoke last year finishing fourth on the team in overall scoring with 78 points (35 G, 43 A) in 72 games. The 24-year-old native of Minnesota began his professional career in 2001-02 with the Johnstown Chiefs before joining the Express. Prior to breaking into the professional ranks, Carlson posted 132 points in 158 games during his four-year career at Notre Dame University.

Dalmao returns to the Express for his fourth season after another strong season for the 24-year-old defenseman last year. The Toronto, Ont. Native finished the 2002-03 season with 11 goals and and 29 assists (40 pts.) in 68 games. Dalmao closed out the year with an impressive 10 power play goals. Overall, he enters his sixth professional season, having tallied 47 goals and 118 assists (165 pts.) in 348 career games.

O'Connell makes his return to Roanoke after splitting the 2002-03 season between Roanoke and Rochester of the American Hockey League. The 25-year-old Grand Forks, ND native skated in 49 games with the Express last season, scoring 29 points (7 G, 22 A) before earning a call-up to Rochester for the remainder of the season, where he notched one goal and three assists in 24 games. O'Connell enters his fourth professional season in 2003-04.
