Durham Bulls News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Bulls starting pitcher Shane Baz set down nine of ten batters faced, combining with three other pitchers to yield just three hits, while first baseman Mike Ford blasted a home run and third baseman Kevin Padlo drove in three runs in Durham's 6-3 win over the Gwinnett Stripers on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field.
Padlo lashed a two-run double to left to put the Bulls ahead 2-0 in the first before LF Nathan Lukes' run-scoring single capped the three-run frame. After Gwinnett scored a single tally in the second, Padlo lofted a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1 in the third. Two innings later, Ford went deep with his 11th longball of the year, extending the advantage to five. The Stripers would narrow their deficit to 6-3 with a pair of runs in the ninth.
Lukes (3-4, 2B, RBI) posted a game-high three hits in the victory, with LF Vidal Brujan (2-4, R) and CF Josh Lowe (2-4, R) each posting multi-hit efforts as well for Durham. Brujan has tallied two or more knocks in six of his ten August matchups.
Baz (3.0 IP, H, R, ER, 0 BB, 3 K) retired all but one of the ten batters he faced in his first outing with Durham since earning a silver medal with Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Southpaw Dietrich Enns (4.0 IP, BB, 4 K) would face the minimum over four innings of support to earn the victory, with Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Nick Anderson (1.0 IP) tossing a perfect frame as well as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment. Gwinnett righty Nolan Kingham (5.0 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat.
Following a league-wide off day on Monday, the Bulls return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, August 17 to square off with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in the latest iteration of the Surf & Turf Series. First pitch of the series opener is set for 6:35pm. Tickets for that game, as well as all remaining Bulls home games are available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
