Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
PEARL, Miss. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (3-3, 31-43) defeated the Mississippi Braves (3-3, 32-44) by a 6-5 score in the sixth and final game of the six-game series at Trustmark Park on Tuesday night.
Jacksonville left-handed relief pitcher Dylan Lee (1-0) earned the victory by retiring all three batters he faced between the seventh and eighth. Mississippi left-handed relief pitcher Adam McCreery (2-5) took the loss, allowing Jacksonville's go-ahead runs in the top of the eighth. Jacksonville right-handed relief pitcher Kyle Keller earned his second save by getting the final three outs despite inheriting a pair of runners in the bottom of the ninth.
Jacksonville jumped out to an early lead thanks to a three-run top of the first. Monte Harrison extended his hitting streak to nine games with an RBI triple to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 1-0 lead. He later scored on a Wright wild pitch, and then on a Joe Dunand strikeout, a wild pitch allowed him to reach first and Isan Diaz to score from third to put Jacksonville's lead at 3-0.
Mississippi got two runs back in the bottom of the second, with RBI singles from Luis Valenzuela and Wright to cut Jacksonville's lead to 3-2. Eric Jagielo began the fourth inning with a towering home run down the right field line, growing Jacksonville's lead to 4-2.
The lead remained until the bottom of the seventh, when Luis Marte hit a two-run homer to left off Dugger to tie the game 4-4. The tie did not last for long, as Joe Dunand drove in his first Double-A runs with a two-RBI double down the left field line to give Jacksonville a 6-4 lead.
Kolton Mahoney started the bottom of the ninth on the mound for Jacksonville, and he allowed hits to the first three batters of the inning, including Valenzuela with an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-5. Keller entered from the bullpen and got the first two outs on fielder's choice plays on the bases, then struck out Brandon Downes with the bases loaded to end the game in a Jacksonville victory.
Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Robert Dugger had a no decision, working six and two-third innings where he allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Mississippi right-handed starting pitcher Kyle Wright had a no decision, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with three walks and a career-high 13 strikeouts in his five and two-thirds innings.
