MOBILE, AL - The Tennessee Smokies defeated the Mobile BayBears on Tuesday night 4-2. With the win in the series finale, the Smokies managed to split the series with the BayBears as they won the last three games of the series in Mobile.

Thomas Hatch made his first start of the second half on Tuesday night. Hatch pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four. Hatch earned his sixth win of the season and lowered his ERA to 3.78.

The Smokies got the scoring started immediately in the top of the first. With one out, Zack Short doubled to center field. After a groundout moved him to third, a wild pitch scored Short to put the Smokies up 1-0.

Tennessee added three more runs to that lead in the top of the second. Jesse Hodges doubled and scored on the next at-bat when Will Remillard doubled. Vimael Machin was the next batter, and he knocked two more in as he hit his first home run of the season out to left field. That put the Smokies up 4-0.

Jordan Minch replaced Hatch and pitched two scoreless, and hitless, innings. Minch did walk two batters in his two innings of work but worked out of them. He also lowered his ERA to 2.75 with the scoreless outing.

After closer Craig Brooks was called up to Triple-A on Monday, Jake Stinnett replaced him in the closing role on Tuesday night and pitched a scoreless ninth to record his first save of the season.

Offensively, the Smokies totaled 11 hits and were led by Machin who totaled three hits in the game including his home run. Short was second on the team with two hits while eight of the Smokies in the lineup got a hit.

The Smokies return home on Thursday to take on the Chattanooga Lookouts at 7 p.m. This will be the first trip to Smokies Stadium for the Lookouts this season, as they'll take on Tennessee in a six-game series.
