Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, twice climbed within a run of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in Tuesday afternoon's matinee, but they couldn't pull off the comeback in a 5-4 defeat. Pensacola (34-40, 4-2 Second Half) won their fourth straight, taking the series from the Generals (41-34, 2-4 Second Half) with timely hitting and stingy pitching.
After striking out the side in the first inning, Generals starter Justin Donatella (3-4, 3.73 ERA) got two outs in the second inning before damage was done. Batting for the first time in 2018, Pensacola pitcher Victor Payano poked a double down the left field line that cleared the bases, giving Pensacola a 3-0 lead with his first career hit. Donatella held the Wahoos down through the next three frames, but he gave up two more runs in the sixth and was saddled with the loss, totaling five hits allowed with three walks and six punchouts. Brad Goldberg, Wei-Chieh Huang, and Mason McCullough all made scoreless appearances over the final 3.2 innings to keep the Generals in the game.
Josh Prince built on Monday's 3-for-3 effort by belting his third home run of the year in his second plate appearance on Tuesday, putting the Generals on the board in the fourth. On the very next pitch, Jason Morozowski swatted a homer of his own, as the Generals hit back-to-backs jacks for the second time in June and the first time at home. The two solo dingers brought Jackson within a run at 3-2, but the Generals had trouble scoring again until the eighth. Down 5-2 with four outs to go, consecutive two-out RBI singles from Marcus Littlewood and Galli Cribbs lifted the Generals back within a run at 5-4, but the equalizer never came, as Jackson left the bases loaded in the eighth and did not threaten again.
