Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Drive continued their second-half turnaround Thursday night as they sent the visiting Lexington Legends packing with a 6-5 victory at West End Field. It was the Drive's third sweep of the season, and second consecutive at home.
With a 5-5 score in the bottom of the ninth, Josh Reddick delivered the game-winning hit. The right-fielder roped a 2-2 offering from Chad Wagler (4-3) for a RBI-double, plating Jason Place from second base.
For the third time in the series the Drive found themselves down, but not out, early as the Legends plated three runs over the first two innings. Brandon Caipen scored on a wild pitch and Koby Clemens added an RBI-groundout in the first.
An inning later Jhon Florentino led off with a triple and scored as Ralphie Henriquez followed with a single. Greenville starter Daniel Bard then issued back-to-back walks, bringing an end to his evening after just an inning and a third.
Lexington Doug Arguello held the Drive offense in check over the first three innings before Greenville mounted a comeback. In the fourth, Argenis Diaz laced a two-run single, scoring Matt Sheely and Kristopher Negron. Jon Still tied the game in the fifth with his team-leading 14th homer, a shot that ricocheted off the New York Life building in leftfield.
The Drive and Legends then engaged in a see-saw battle as both teams scored two runs in their turns at bat in the sixth. Clemens tallied an RBI with a sacrifice fly off reliever Ryan Phillips, snapping the Drive bullpen's streak of 12.1 scoreless innings. Jordan Parraz collected an RBI the easy way, as he was issued a bases loaded walk.
Greenville answered in the bottom half of the inning as Reid Engel brought the Drive within a run with a sacrifice fly, scoring Sheely. The very next batter, Lars Anderson, reached on a throwing error that allowed Negron to score.
The two teams remained tied until the Drive's final at-bat. Place led off the inning with a four pitch walk versus Wagler and advanced to second on a wild pitch to setup Reddick's heroics.
Joshua Papelbon (4-4), the younger brother of Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, earned his fourth win of the season, and second in as many outings. The right-hander was perfect in 1.2 innings while fanning three.
The Drive will look to continue their strong performance versus Northern Division opponents at West End Field as the West Virginia Power, the league's top hitting team, come to town for a four-game series.
Southpaw Felix Doubront will take the mound for the Drive, as the Power counter with lefty Mike Ramlow. Tickets to all Drive home games can be purchased by visiting www.GreenvilleDrive.com, or by calling (864) 240-4500.
