Braves' Rally Falls Short

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves fall short for the third night in a row to the Columbus Catfish 7-5 in front of a crowd of 2,968 at State Mutual Stadium.

The Catfish jumped on the board first as Ryan Royster started off the second inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Jeff Lyman. He later scored on a double by Matt Fields giving the Catfish a 1-0 lead.

The bats stayed quiet for both teams until top of the sixth inning when Cesar Suarez and Royster both start of the inning with base hits for Columbus. Stewart followed with two run double scoring Suarez and Royster for the 3-0 score. After a pitching change, Joey Callender and Matt Fields both singled and Stewart came around to score the fourth run of the game. Desmond Jennings then cracked a three run homer (6) giving Columbus a sizable 7-0 lead.

The Braves would cut into the Columbus lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two run homer by Jon Mark Owings (7) inching Rome closer with a 7-2 score.

The Braves added three runs in the seventh on a two run homer from Chad Lundahl (3) and a solo shot by Yohan Silva (5) closing the lead to 7-5. Columbus pitching held the Braves the final two frames to hold on to the 7-5 victory. . Jeremy Hellickson improves his record to 6-2 and remains perfect against the Braves 4-0. Jeff Lyman is tagged with the loss (3-8). Ryan Owen earns the save (6).
