Dragons Lose in Lansing, 8-3

Lansing, Mich.-Michael Crouse belted a three-run home run to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning and the Lansing Lugnuts went on to defeat the Dayton Dragons 8-3 on Sunday afternoon. Dayton's loss snapped their three-game winning streak. The Dragons have won seven of their last nine games.

Crouse came to bat with two outs in the sixth and drilled his second home run of the season over the left field fence with two men on base to give Lansing a 4-1 lead. The Lugnuts scored three more in the seventh, keyed by a two-run home run by Kevin Ahrens to build a 7-1 lead. They added one more in the eighth before the Dragons closed out the scoring with two in the ninth.

Dragons starting pitcher Tim Crabbe was within an out of getting out of the sixth inning with the game tied but was charged with the loss. He worked five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs with four walks and six strikeouts. He fell to 3-7 on the year.

The Dragons collected six hits. Didi Gregorius was 2 for 4. Henry Rodriguez went 1 for 5 to extend his hitting streak to 14 straight games, one short of the Dragons 2010 season high set by Cameron Satterwhite. Josh Garton had a double for the Dragons only extra base hit. The Dragons were just 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position.

The Dragons (19-42, 49-81) play the Lugnuts again Monday at 7:05 p.m. Daniel Corcino (1-1, 2.95) will start for Dayton against Matt Fields (5-7, 3.96). The next home game is Wednesday vs. Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field.

Notes: The Dragons are 9-6 over their last 15 games...Gregorius is batting .419 over his last seven games...The eight runs by Lansing were the most by a Dayton opponent since August 16 when Lake County scored 11...The game represented the largest margin of defeat for the Dragons since August 12 when they lost 10-3.
