Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - Albert Suarez rode a five-run fifth inning to his first win of the season on Sunday, guiding the Hot Rods to a 7-5 triumph over the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Bowling Green Ballpark. A quartet of doubles sparked the five-run rally evening up the series at one win each after two games.

In a 1-1 game, the Hot Rods sent nine men to the plate in the fifth inning, doing most of their damage against starter Mike Watt. Tomas Francisco started the doubles spree with an opposite field shot off the right-center field wall. Two batters later, Kyle Spraker gave the Hot Rods the lead with a double down the right field line to make it 2-1. After a walk to Bennett Davis, Ty Morrison and Brett Nommensen both doubled, extending the Hot Rods lead to 5-1.

Watt left the game at that point for reliever Allen Marona. The newcomer immediately gave up a single to Julio Cedeno, scoring Nommensen from second to push the Hot Rods lead to 6-1.

Suarez left the game at that point, in line for his first victory of the season. He pitched five innings for the second straight outing, giving up just one run. After allowing three of the first six hitters to reach, he settled down to retire 12 of the final 13 men that came to the plate. He surrendered just three hits and one walk while striking out five. In two outings against Fort Wayne, Suarez has limited the TinCaps to just two runs on four hits, striking out nine batters in nine innings.

Tyree Hayes followed Suarez out of the Hot Rods bullpen, working the final four innings for his first professional save. He allowed four runs, all coming on a pair of two-out, two-run home runs.

Bowling Green added an insurance run in the eighth inning against Jackson Quezada. Mark Thomas doubled to begin the frame, took third on a groundout, and then scored on a single by Francisco.

Francisco led the offense with two of the team's nine hits, extending his hitting streak to ten games. He is hitting .385 (15-39) during the streak while raising his RBI total to an even 12. Nommensen finished with a pair of RBI, moving past Ryan Wiegand for the team lead with 66. Morrison finished the game with two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base. He now has 51 steals and 55 RBI on the season.
