South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Eastlake, OH - Chris Kersten's solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning was the only run on Sunday afternoon in Lake County's 1-0 defeat of the South Bend Silver Hawks. The fourth straight loss for South Bend has left their playoff hopes in desperation as they have only eight games remaining in the regular season.

The Silver Hawks had a runner in the first erased on a caught stealing and a runner in the second eliminated on a double play to set the tone for the game. South Bend stranded six in the game as Brett Brach (WP, 5-8) kept the Silver Hawks to only four hits in his 6.2 innings on the mound to earn the victory.

Jeremy Johnson (ND) pitched a scoreless inning and Jose Flores (SV, 6) got the final four outs - pitching around two hits in the ninth - to earn the save. The Silver Hawks have been shut out 12 times this season.

Tyler Skaggs (LP, 8-5) was the tough luck loser for South Bend, allowing just the one run on Kersten's homer in his 5.0 innings on the mound. Skaggs struck out seven while allowing one walk and three hits in the loss.

Derek Eitel (ND) threw 3.0 perfect innings of relief, striking out five.

Ramon Castillo was the lone offensive highlight for South Bend, going 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Game three of the four game road series begins at 7:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday evening at Classic Park. The starting pitching matchup will feature RHP Adam Worthington (5-5, 4.66 ERA) for South Bend against Lake County's RHP Jason Knapp (1-0, 0.00 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com .
