Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. - Four Fort Wayne pitchers combined to scatter nine hits as the TinCaps defeated the Dayton Dragons 5-1 on Wednesday night in the first game of the series.

Fort Wayne never trailed in the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the third to start the scoring. They pulled away from the Dragons late, scoring two runs in the eighth in what had been a 3-1 contest.

The Dragons trailed 2-0 when they broke through for a run in the sixth, getting three consecutive singles by Claudio Finol, Brian Rey, and Jay Schuyler to produce the run. But they were shutout over the final three innings despite collecting hits in every frame.

Dragons starting pitcher Jhon De Jesus was charged with the loss and fell to 2-12 on the year. He worked four innings, allowing two runs on six base hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Randy Wynne, just called up from Greeneville on Tuesday, replaced De Jesus to start the fifth inning in his Dragons debut. Wynne worked four innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He did not issue a walk and struck out two.

The Dragons finished the night with nine hits including seven over the final four innings, but they did not have an extra base hit in the game and went 1 for 9 with men in scoring position. Brian Rey was 2 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to nine straight games. Claudio Finol and Miguel Hernandez also had two hits for Dayton.

Despite the loss, the Dragons remained four games behind the wildcard leader, South Bend, in the playoff chase with 25 games to play.
