Dayton Dragons News Release

Cedar Rapids, IA- The Dayton Dragons (15-23, 45-63) finished up a long eight days on the road with a one sided loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (18-20, 48-60) at Veteran's Memorial Stadium. The Kernels exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning of Dragons starter Camilo Vazquez (L, 4-4) on route to a 10-3 win. Cedar Rapids won three of four game in the series as Dayton finished the road trip with one win and seven losses.

For the third time in as many games, the Kernels got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs off Vazquez. An Adam Rosales error for the Dragons led to both runs being scored as unearned. With two down and runners at second and third, Josh LeBlanc delivered a two RBI singer to right field for a 2-0 Kernel lead.

Vazquez was not able to survive the second inning, getting pulled with two down in the bottom half of the second. The night for the left hander ended with nine runs, seven earned, and eight hits allowed. He struck out and walked one batter.

Richard Giannotti got the first run home in the seven run second with an RBI single to right. Freddy Sandoval started a string of five consecutive Kernels to knock home a run in the inning with an RBI single to make it a 4-0 game. Michael Collins followed with a sac fly for a 5-0 lead. Drew Toussaint and LeBlanc both picked up RBI singles to extend the lead to 7-0. LeBlanc's second run producing hit gave him three on the night in the first two innings. With two out and one on, Sean Rodriguez closed out the scoring in the inning and chased Vazquez with a two run homer to left center, giving the Kernels a 9-0 lead.

Kernels starter Ronnie Ray (W, 4-1) was not spectacular on the night but with a 9-0 lead through two innings, didn't have to be. Dayton picked up it's only run of the night off Ray in the top of the third on a two out double by Rosales that scored Trevor Lawhorn. Lawhorn led the inning off with a single to left.

Cedar Rapids picked up an unearned run off Ramon Ramirez (ND) in the sixth inning to push the lead to 10-1, on Toussaint's second RBI hit of the night.

Both Brad Cherry (ND), 2.1 innings and Jared Sanders (ND) 1.0 innings, threw at least one scoreless inning in relief for the Miami Valley's Team.

The Dragons added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning, to close to within seven at 10-3. The Dayton runs scored a throwing error by Kernels short stop Alexis Casilla and a sac fly from Rosales. The Dragons shortstop picked up his first extra base hit with the RBI double in the second and his first multi RBI game in a Dragons uniform.

The Dragons return home to Fifth Third Field to open a four game series against the Fort Wayne Wizards beginning on Tuesday night. RHP Homer Bailey will make the start for the Dragons in the series opener. Fort Wayne will send LHP Cesar Ramos to the mound in game one. The pre game show on 1410 ESPN Radio hits the air at 6:30 PM.
