Whelan, Hahn to join Whitecaps

Comstock Park - The Detroit Tigers announced several changes to the West Michigan Whitecaps roster Monday afternoon. Righthanded pitchers Kevin Whelan and Jeff Hahn are both being added to the 'Caps roster while infielder Jody Roughton has been given his unconditional release.

Whelan was the Tigers' fourth round draft pick in the June 2005 amateur draft and comes to the Whitecaps from Oneonta. Since joining the Tigers in late June, Whelan is 1-1 with four saves and a 2.25 ERA in 11 outings. The Texas native was drafted follwing his sophomore year at Texas A&M University where he played as both a relief pitcher and back-up catcher. Whelan also played summer ball in the Cape Cod League where he led the league with 11 saves and a 0.42 ERA.

Hahn was taken by the Tigers in the 35th round of the 2005 draft and spent time in Oneonta before joining the Whitecaps. In ten appearances with Oneonta, Hahn was 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA. The 23-year-old was drafted following his senior year at Clemson University.

Whelan and Hahn are expected to suit up for the first time tonight when the Whitecaps take on the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays. Gametime is at 7:00 p.m.
