
Silver Hawks take four game series over Lugnuts

South Bend, IN - The best mark the South Bend Silver Hawks have had above .500 this season, was a record of 50-32. That mark is 18 games above sea level. Tuesday night, the Hawks reached that plateau again, taking three-of-four games from the Lansing Lugnuts, winning Tuesday night 4-2.
The Hawks first inning started with Alberto Gonzales walking and Jereme Milons reaching on a fielding error by third baseman Jason Armstrong. With runners at first and second, Lansing starter A.J. Wideman threw wildly on a pickoff attempt at second moving Gonzales to third and Milons to second. Wilkin Castillo then singled through the hole at shortstop bringing in Gonzales and Milons to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Lansing tied the game with a pair of solo runs in the second and in the fifth. Ryan Klosterman doubled home a run in the second, while Eugenio Velez scored on starting pitcher Kellen Raab's wild pitch to knot the game at two.
The Hawks jumped back in front in the sixth when Alberto Gonzalez clubbed his first home run of the season to lead off the frame, and added an insurance run in the eighth to grab their seventh win over their last ten games.
South Bend's Kellen Raab (4-4) picked up the win while, A.J. Wideman (6-7) suffered the loss. Matt Elliott came out of the pen for his 26th save.
After a quick four game trip to play the Wisconsin Timberrattlers, the Silver Hawks (62-45) return home Saturday for a four game series with the Lansing Lugnuts (54-52).
