DAYTON, Ohio - Conor Fisk pitched a career-high seven innings, only to see his Lansing Lugnuts (9-7, 51-35) stymied by the Dayton Dragons (7-9, 46-40), 2-1, in the Friday night opener of a four-game series at Fifth Third Field.

A day after playing for four hours, 31 minutes in a 15-inning win at Great Lakes, the Lugs took only two hours and seven minutes to fall in defeat.

It was not for lack of effort from the 23-year-old Fisk (Loss, 0-1), who topped a 5 2/3 performance in his first Lugnuts start. Tasked with saving a taxed Lugs bullpen, the Southern Miss product turned in a strong showing, allowing six hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

A David Harris RBI double in the top of the fifth inning looked to vindicate Fisk's efforts, putting the Lugs up 1-0. In the home fifth, however, Jose Ortiz's RBI single tied the score at 1-1. Three batters later, former Michigan State Spartan Jimmy Pickens gave the Dragons the lead for good with an RBI single of his own.

Dayton lefty Brennan Bernardino (Win, 2-1) picked up the victory with 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Conor Krauss (Save, 4) worked the final two frames, working around singles by Harris and Dawel Lugo in the eighth and setting down the final four Lugs batters.

Both Harris and D.J. Davis collected a pair of hits for the Lugnuts in the losing cause.

Lansing reliever Dusty Isaacs, a native of nearby Lebanon, OH, pitched a perfect eighth inning.

The Lugnuts send right-hander Starlyn Suriel (5-4, 3.21) to the mound for the second game in the series, scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start on Saturday night. Dayton counters with right-hander Wyatt Strahan (5-6, 2.88).

Lansing's next homestand is July 15-17 against the South Bend Cubs. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
