Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-There will be a race, after all.

On Sunday, for the second straight night, the Dayton Dragons featured a powerful offensive attack as they defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 8-2 at Fifth Third Field and gained ground on the South Bend Silver Hawks in the wildcard race.

The Dragons, who trailed South Bend by three games after Friday night's action and were struggling through a six-game-losing streak, cut the wildcard deficit to a single game, winning their second straight over Lansing as South Bend lost its third consecutive game to Great Lakes. Seven games remain on the Dragons schedule.

Just as they did on Saturday, the Dragons came out hitting on Sunday night. They collected 10 hits over the first three innings in building an 8-0 lead.

After taking the lead with an unearned run in the first inning, Dayton scored four runs on five hits in the second. The big hit of the inning was a two-run single by Alex Oliveras after Kevyn Feiner had brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. Tony Brown added an RBI single later in the inning to make it 5-0.

In the third, Chase Weems doubled with one out and scored on Miguel Rojas' single. Rojas eventually scored on an error, and Josh Fellhauer's single drove in the final run of the inning to make it 8-0.

Lansing scored their only runs in the sixth to close out the scoring.

Dragons starting pitcher Ezequiel Infante (2-1) earned the victory, working five and two-thirds innings. He allowed five hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.

Fellhauer went 3 for 5 to lead the Dragons' 12-hit attack. Rojas and Humberto Sosa each had two hits.

The Dragons, who scored just 10 runs over their six-game losing streak that ended Saturday night, have scored 18 runs on 30 hits over the last two games.

The Dragons host Lansing again Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the finale of the four-game series at Fifth Third Field. Jordan Hotchkiss (3-5, 2.77) will start for Dayton.
