Bees Split Double-Dip with Beloit

Beloit, WI (August 30, 2009) - The Burlington Bees split a double-header with Beloit Sunday afternoon. The Bees won the first game 8-5 and then lost the second 2-1. With Clinton splitting a double-header with Quad Cities, the Bees are still three games up in the race for a playoff spot.

In the first game, the Bees got on the board first scoring one run in each of the first two innings. In the first inning, David Wood doubled with two outs and then scored on a Jason Taylor double. In the second inning, Jason Morales singled, moved to second on a ground-out and then scored on a Yeldrys Molina base-hit to give the Bees a 2-0 lead. The Bees then took a 5-0 lead scoring three runs in the third inning. Patrick Norris and Hilton Richardson led the inning off with back-to-back bunt singles and then each moved up a base on a wild pitch. After one out was recorded, Jason Taylor reached on an RBI Fielder's Choice, which scored Norris and moved Richardson up to third. There was then a double-steal with scored Richardson and moved Taylor to second. The final run of the inning scored when Juan Graterol singled Taylor home to give the Bees a 5-0 lead.

Beloit scored four runs in the third inning to get back within one run. The Bees then put some distance between them and the Snappers scoring three runs in the fifth inning. With one out, Taylor walked. Griffin then came to the plate and hit his third homerun of the season. Graterol then singled and moved to third on a Ryan Wood base-hit. Molina then singled to score Graterol, which gave the Bees an 8-4 lead. Beloit scored the final run of the day in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Tim Melville got the start for the Bees. In three innings, he allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on two hits with two strikeouts and five walks. Tony Pena picked up the win to move to 1-2. In three innings, he allowed just one hit with five strikeouts and no walks. James Thompson pitched one inning allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. The Bees outhit Beloit 14-4. Every player in the lineup for the Bees had at least one hit with five players coming up with two hits. Taylor and Griffin each had two RBI. Taylor also scored two runs.

In the second game, the Bees scored the first run of the game in the second inning. With one out Jose Bonilla doubled and moved to third on a Jason Morales single. Ryan Wood then hit a sacrifice fly to score Bonilla, which gave the Bees a 1-0 lead. Beloit tied the game in the bottom of the second with one run and then took the lead with a run in the third. That was the final run scored in the game. The Bees did not record a hit after the third inning. The game ended with the potential tying run at third for the Bees.

Mike Lehmann got the start for the Bees and took the loss to move to 5-6 on the season. In three innings, he allowed two runs on two hits and three walks. Justin Garcia pitched three scoreless innings allowing just two hits with three strikeouts and no walks. The Bees had four hits with Adrian Ortiz accounting for half of them going 2-3 with a walk.

The Bees will conclude the series with Beloit on Monday night. Manauris Baez is the scheduled starter with first pitch scheduled for 7:00.
